As a child, Adam Coers would notice abandoned buildings in local towns around his hometown of Mason City and envision revitalizing them, so the community could use and and appreciate them. These dreams of renovation sparked his initial interest in architecture. Taking a drafting course in high school sealed the deal for his career path.
Adam still lives in Mason City today — he actually purchased and lives in the house he grew up in. Making his childhood vision a reality, he’s in the process of rehabbing both his house and an original building in downtown Mason City.
Adam joined Graham & Hyde in 2021 after learning about the firm during his master’s thesis work. He received his bachelor’s degree in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (where he was a member of the Orange Krush) and his Master of Architecture from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Adam specializes in the Industrial, Education and Commercial sectors in both an Architectural and Structural capacity. He has a strong history in the construction industry, working in roles that include detailer for a pre-engineered metal building supplier, sales, estimating for a pre-engineered wood building supplier, revit tech for structural engineers, as well as Designer/Architect.
When he’s not designing or rehabbing, Adam helps his family raise and show sheep. “Instead of family vacations, we raise sheep and spend a lot of our summer traveling around to the different county fairs within Illinois,” he shares. He also enjoys classic cars and is a devoted Illini and Red Sox fan.
Adam is a member of the American Institute of Architects and serves as a part-time virtual instructor leading study workshops for the Architect Registration Examination.
