Even as a kid, Ben Dockter has always been interested in the way things are put together — from Legos to cross-section books.

Ben Dockter, AIA Principal G&H Architects, Inc.

When pursuing a career path, architecture appealed to his desire to “take things apart and rearrange them in new and interesting ways,” he says

Ben moved to Springfield when he was five years old. He received his bachelors and masters degrees in Architecture from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

Ben was drawn to Graham & Hyde because of the firm’s long-standing presence in Springfield. He serves as a project manager, team member and designer in the preparation of construction documents, including projects ranging from K-12 schools, universities, libraries, athletic facilities and residential projects.

He is well-versed in BIM technology from conceptual design through construction and has led the coordination of architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing trades on multiple projects.

Ben and his wife Emily, a 1st grade teacher in Springfield District #186, have two daughters and one son. When at home, he’s often found “tinkering” with his house, but he also thrives on traveling. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer, watching movies and reading.

Ben is a member of the American Institutes of Architects and has previously served as president of the local chapter. He is a LEED Accredited Professional with a specialty in Building Design and Construction, utilizing sustainable design strategies from wind turbines to geothermal systems.
